Treatment

Miley Cyrus- Adore you (Bangerz 2013 Album)
Length: 4:39
Meaning of song: Reminiscing on the happy times she had with an ex-boyfriend. Expresses the love and need for him.
Lyrics
Baby, baby, are you listening
Wondering where you've been all my life
I just started living
Oh baby, are you listening

When you say you love me,
Know I love you more
And when you say you need me,
Know I need you more
Boy I adore you
I adore you

Baby can you hear me
When I'm crying out for you
I'm scared oh so scared
But when you're near me
I feel like I'm standing with an army
I am armed with weapons

When you say you love me,
Know I love you more
And when you say you need me,
Know I need you more
Boy I adore you
I adore you

I love lying next to you
I could do this for eternity, you and me
We're meant to be in holy matrimony
God knew exactly what he was doing
When he led me to you

When you say you love me,
Know I love you more
And when you say you need me,
Know I need you more
Boy I adore you
I adore you

When you say you love me,
Know I love you more
And when you say you need me,
Know I need you more
Boy I adore you
I adore you
Plot: Starts off with a girl sitting on the floor of her bedroom vulnerable, feeling sorry for herself, then it goes into flashbacks of fun things they did together like ice skating, bowling, exploring London and spending time together, this is mixed in with the bad times, arguments/fights they had.
This music video will basically show the process of falling in love and feeling heartbreak.
Narrative: The music video will mostly be clips of the main character lip singing in the studio and flashbacks. The boy will have 2 line where he says "I love you" and "I need you" to go along with the lyrics of the song.
This will in the form of a mime as i envision my video to have zero dialogue. What makes my idea different, is that I have chosen a song that not a lot of people have heard yet they can reflect on the plot as everyone goes through heartbreak.
I did four case studies, two music video and two short films. From the music videos I liked the fact that it was a breakup scene and the lead role was seen as powerful but I also liked if I did the opposite even more this is why I chose a song which is so vulnerable. From the short films I took the fact that it had no dialog but you could still understand the meaning of the story.

Equipment: Camera and editing software
Genre: Pop
Audience: mostly teenage girls but can appeal to all ages/genders
Location: London: House, Alexandra Park, studio.
What makes my idea different, is that I have chosen a music video that not a lot of people have heard yet they can reflect on the plot as everyone goes through falling in love and breaking up.

Feasibility – Making this Music video should be fairly simple as I have all the equipment and software necessary. I also have an idea of the characters, costumes, props, scenes etc. Also this will not cost much apart from refreshments for actors as the locations are fairly local and the college provides the equipment and software.
Main Characters- Girl aged 18/19- going against typical Miley and just going back to the old Miley who was quite vulnerable
Boy aged 18/19 who is quite emotional
Both artists will be casted outside of college.
Distribution- Will be distributed on online websites such as Facebook, twitter and YouTube and I’ll also upload it onto my blog for audiences to see.

Case studies

Giving is the best communication (True Move H)

This is a Thai short film. the film is based in the rural areas of Thai land, the message it sends out is that if you help others, they will help you. Even though the film is in another language it has subtitles to communicate to everyone so the audience understands what is happening.
The first scene starts off with a women shouting at the boy, for stealing some things from her store. The camera keeps showing reverse shots of the women shouting at him and a man in the background watching the everything unfold. · As the man gets involved the camera is focused on him on a middle shot, and he asks her what the problem is, his character comes across as a very caring and humble man, as he gives the money for the boy. · The camera angle is a close up of the boy and then a reverse shot to the man who just paid for the things he stole, the boys character comes across as being poor and vulnerable as he has no money to pay for the medicine his mum needs. · The theme of this short film is isolation, kindness. This film is set in a country side village, which seems isolated from the world. Until the shop keeper gets sick and the daughter is forced to take her father to a hospital; where the camera shots are mostly extreme close ups to emphasize the emotion of the characters faces, or long shot which show the background and what is happening there, such as the shop keeper lying in hospital or when the daughter puts the house up for sale.
The film starts with dialog and music is playing throughout the short film in the background.
The start of the short films starts with a close up of the boys eyes, and then gradually moves out towards the whole scene.
Throughout this film the boy is talking about events and strange things that’s been going on for the past few days · This movie is taken from a first person perspective as everything is being seen from him and he is talking throughout the whole movie. · The theme of this short film seems to be based on the boy who is the only character in this movie who wakes up to a world where no one exist · As the film goes on there are many shots mostly long shots that show him walking down the street of his deserted town or close ups of moments where he finds his clothes folded at the end of his bed, which goes against the theme of him being alone. · A short film created by Danny Blackstock, Glen Cheng, Stephanie Bourgeois, and Melinda Ng, starring Cameron James Phillips · This film gives me ideas of what I would want to do for my video, as there is dialog but in the background and not coming from the character himself, also having camera shots of the settings in the video rather than the camera focusing on one scene.

The Last 3 Minutes

William Turner is a weary sixty eight year old office Janitor who lives a lonely life, without family and friends. He never likes to interact with other and keeps everything to himself. He has forgotten by the world. ‎"Behind every ordinary person, there is an extraordinary life."

One night, as William working in the office alone as usual, he suddenly jolts, struck by a lightning chest pain. He drops to the ground and a raw crystal falls off his pocket. In his death throes, William reaches desperately for the crystal and holds it up to his eye. He loves looking at the world around him through this prism, but this time he sees more than he expected. He sees his whole life flash back in front of his eyes, in reverse, through the crystal.

This movie is in a non linear narrative as it starts from the end then ends at the beginning. The theme of the film is loneliness and death because in the film the lead character who is represented as grumpy and miserable shuts himself off from other people and in the end dies. the others represented in the film seem happy and adventurous.

Sound- there is little dialogue in the film. The dialogue we do hear is to help the audience gain an understanding of why what is happening in the film, is happening. The sound we hear the majority of the time is music which is there to represent the feeling/mood at the time of the proceedings.

Mise en scene- there are different locations where this movie is shot at such as the restaurant where the main character dies which had dim lighting to give effect to his death, the beach where it shows them having fun, a battlefield where it shows his father dying, in the bedroom where we see his wife. These locations are reminiscent of his life. The one prop that stood out was the diamond that the main character dropped when he fell. The diamond was a way for the director to show all the flashbacks of his life.

Camera
Zoom & focus to show the diamond, this makes it known that the diamond is of real importance in the film, to the main character.
Close ups of faces, particularly the main character when he was dying to show the pain he was going through.
Handheld throughout the whole film as it was quite shaky and it made it seem as if it was the main characters point of view.

Editing- for the majority of the movie there were a lot of jump cuts, jumping from one scene to the other showing no correlation at all, this showed the sequence of the main characters life. also the whole film was a flashback of the main characters life through the diamond. His whole life from end to the beginning was shown.

Beyoncé- Irreplaceable (2006) directed by Anthony Mandler

In this music video, Beyoncé sings from the standpoint of a woman who is addressing her lover, who has been cheating on her. She's telling him that he can be easily replaced which shows thee themes of the video are strength and independence.,

Ne-Yo wrote the lyrics for the girl power anthem, which were inspired by his aunt and her unfaithful lover. Speaking on his VH1 Behind The Music special, the R&B singer-songwriter described how his aunt had a successful career and was very generous with her boyfriend until he cheated on her. "I remember him coming to the house," recalled Ne-Yo, "and him looking in the closet and going, 'Where's my this, where's my that?' and she said, 'Oh, in the box to the left of the closet. Everything you own is in that box and everything I bought is over here.'
"

It opens with a close up of Knowles filing her nails in silence which shows her don't care attitude, as her ex-partner packs up his property, as Knowles orders him to leave. Mid-way in the video, Knowles follows her then-ex-boyfriend outside the house and leans on a car which she owns, this shows her independence once again. She appears to be caressing him; only for the audience to find out that she is repossessing things she bought for him. He leaves her and the car, about to ride off in a taxi. Between cuts, Knowles manages herself in front of a mirror; putting on a lipstick, wearing huge curlers and a high-waisted skirt. There are additional beats mixed to the arrangement for the video version that can be heard, when Knowles sings with her all-female band, Suga Mama, towards the end. It ends with Knowles greeting her new boyfriend at the front door. the entire time the camera is steady in order to show how rational the situation is.
There is no dialogue inform of speaking, just singing. the entire music video is a soundtrack which has a catchy chorus and strong lyrics which make a point to highlight female resilience.
this music video inspired me in terms of the themes of strength and independence, I think I will be taking those themes into consideration when doing my music video.
the target audience are people who are in the same position as Beyoncé.

This music video is about a girl who's been dumped she's crushed but she has the whole "as long as he's happy attitude" and she really is glad that he's happy but she still loves him and misses him and is basically saying I love you more now that your gone and nothing's changed I still want you and if he wants her to, she'll stay.
The video is filled with fast cutting rates of past and present scenes that has happened between the couple. This is what i will be taking from this music video as the song i have chosen show some of the same values that this one does and i feel as it represents the meaning of the song well. The majority of the video is action from Miley Cyrus' concert film for Hannah Montana. There is no dialogue in form of speaking, just the singing which is exactly what i imagine my music video to be like.

Production schedule

My first task was to create a production schedule of how I will be completing this assignment. This is my initial schedule, changes will be made.
